About Me

“The object of art is to give life a shape'

–Jean Anouilh

My passion for photography began at a very early age when my father  and I would hike up the canyons of Utah looking for just the right mixture of nature and serendipity. From those first experiences with my Kodak Brownie camera, I have worked on capturing the rare moments of intimacy within families and friendships.  My pursuit to uncover these unscripted scenes is like finding treasures that will have meaning years from now that the client might not even appreciate at the time.

As I photograph a wedding, I focus on the tender relationships and honest emotions of families. I will quietly follow a grandfather to catch the instant when his face lights up at the sight of a grandchild or wait patiently for the moment when parents realize their daughter has just moved from the arms of their protecting care into the arms of a loving husband.

I believe the attention to detail is my trademark - the bride's shoes, the gnarled hands of a grandparent, the stolen kiss between bride and groom, the mixed emotions of joy and sorrow that flow through family gatherings. The best, most moving photography isn't just about getting the settings right - it's an art form that demands instinct and nonintrusive courage.

There are two specific genres of photography in which I specialize and love most - weddings and children. These beautiful times of joy and love provide the perfect setting to capture the spontaneity and warmth of families.  When I take pictures it's like watching a movie unfold. I don't want to miss one shot of the story. I love it! And it's that love which allows me to uncover the true essence of a family's most important and cherished milestones.

My style is very much influenced by a belief that the best photographs are born organically from the interaction between the subject, environment, and camera. Rather than attempting to pose a person or create an artificial scene, I allow the camera to capture the natural energy of the person and his or her surroundings. I believe in honoring the pure, the candid, and the genuine.
